Ecosystem Markets – States Coming on Board

If anyone doubted that the markets for conservation finance or specifically ecosystem markets, including water quality, wetland mitigation and conservation banking, would remain on the fringe should read the state of Maryland executive order 13508.

This is a blueprint for restoring and preserving the Chesapeake Bay watershed through the use of market based mechanisms that will help to motivate private landowners and increase vigilance on polluting industries, including CAFO, or Concentrated Animal Feed Organizations, such as industrial sized chicken and pig producers.

I think this could become a model for other states and regions of the country to not only achieve environmental goals, but to increase the tax base and levy fines for violators. Its 173 pages but well worth reading. Here is the link http://executiveorder.chesapeakebay.net/

BTW, Mission Markets is finally close to launching the private capital marketplace, which is our private investment exchange, and will launch the Mission Markets Earth Environmental markets exchange in mid June.
